Ministering to Ukrainian orphans with Open Arms…

January 21, 2008

Anika Bachle, a young lady from our church, hopes to move to Ukraine in February with three of her friends. These girls have made numerous trips to the North East of Ukraine to minister to the 200 orphans in an orphanage in Pravda, near Sumy. They have developed deeper and deeper relationships with these kids, ministered to them in practical ways, shown them love, won their trust, and pointed them to Christ. As heart-wrenching as the love-less lives of the orphans in the orphanage is, their future looks even bleaker… These girls are moving across the world to do everything they can to see the kids they know and love have a brighter future. They call their ministry “Open Arms”, and this is their mission statement: “Reaching out to the broken orphans of Ukraine with Open Arms by providing loving, stable support through which they can begin new lives of hope, dreams, and healing in their Heavenly Father.”

This slideshow will give you a glimpse into their ministry. Please watch it:

I heard the leader of a compassion ministry say that most people do nothing because they can’t do everything. I think that is very true. I don’t want it to be me though… I want to do what I can. And as more and more of us do what we can, we may be very surprised at just how much can be done… Especially since we have a great God, who delights in using foolish, weak nobodies, and who can do immensely more than we can imagine…
